Advocacy for Human Race Against Rotavirus

It's been a privileged to witness the advocacy of Coach Rio de la Cruz last Sunday, January 27, 2013 held at Pryce Plaza Hotel during the Vaccine Congress 2013 called Human Race Against Rotavirus.

By the way, do you know what Rotavirus is all about? It is actually is the most common cause of severe diarrhea among infants and young children- indeed an enemy that we need to fight! Why? Because 4000 children die everyday aged less than 5 years old and in the Philippines statistics show that there are 13 children die everyday because of this rotavirus-related gastroenteritis.

In this race, losing is more than just being the last to cross the finish line but this time, defeat means loss of thirteen precious lives. We need to fight and win for this enemy and stop it before it's to late, if we only quicken our steps to outrun this enemy!

But how to save this children from rotavirus-related death counts? It is through vaccination where we can prevent this fatal disease. The World Health Organization's Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) recommends that rotavirus vaccines be included in all national immunization programs, particularly in countries where diarrhea-related deaths account for more than 10% deaths in children younger than 5 years old.

Through their recommendations, I hope it will somehow reduce overall child mortality in the Philippines and win the race against this fatal yet highly preventable disease. Remember that the faster we act against the rotavirus, the more children we save.

Cancer: Life Threaning Disease

According to studies, the rate of cancer patients are still increasing. Just like this afternoon, my office mate told me that our boss was being referred by her physician to visit an oncologist for the reason that she always experience a blood in her urine. As I look for the causes of her illness on the net, I found out that it was known as hematuria which is also one sign of having a bladder or kidney cancer.

Oh my! So sad to hear that many people suffer from this kind of life threatening diseases especially the most common to women the cervical cancer and to some who are expose to asbestos called mesothelioma.Good thing that those who have experienced such can have Mesothelioma lawsuits to defend them. My Nephew's Disease

Just yesterday as I was reading my cousin’s post, I was so shocked when I read that my nephew was suspected to have HFMD (Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease). Oh my, where in the world he got it? He was just suffering high fever for days and rashes on his upper mouth, palms and other parts of his body. The doctor said that there’s still no specific treatment for HFMD but still he prescribed an antiviral syrup which is commonly used to treat chicken pox, mumps, influenza A and etc. This medicine also is being used to help individuals suffering from AIDS related complex. As if that his disease has passed the STD tests that’s why he was given such med.

Speaking of this kind of test, it is now easy for people and their partner to get tested for STD so quickly, conveniently and privately! So much for that, thank God that my cousin’s son is quite okay now.

On Breast Cancer...

We usually hear and read from news about people dying, suffering and surviving this co called CANCER- a life threatening disease. By the way this is a class of diseases in which a group of cells display uncontrolled growth (division beyond the normal limits), invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastasis (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood). These three malignant properties of cancers differentiate them from benign tumors, which are self-limited, and do not invade or metastasize. Most cancers form a tumor but some, like leukemia, do not. This affect people at all ages, even fetuses, but the risk for most varieties increases with age.

Just recently my cousin’s family was grieving because of her mother’s death caused by Cancer. It was indeed so painful for her daughters to accept the fact that their mother will just have limited time here on earth because of the breast cancer stages that is already critical. The time when the doctor checked her up it was already a metastatic breast cancer and they have nothing to do with. Too bad!

If only they could turn back time they have detected it so early and it that sense they will be able to have a breast cancer treatment. I have read the site about Herceptin – is approved for the adjuvant treatment of HER2-overexpressing, node-positive or node-negative (ER/PR-negative or with one high-risk feature)† breast cancer. It is also a as a single agent that is approved for treatment of HER2-overexpressing breast cancer in patients who have received one or more chemotherapy regimens for metastatic disease.

But anyway, all things happened for a purpose!

The Risk of Asbestos Exposure

I just knew just this morning through my hubby that my grandfather (the brother of my biological grandmother) died yesterday afternoon due to Cancer. So sad to hear that another love one of ours died because of this life threatening disease. Actually, my uncle died two years ago because of lung cancer. AAA as defined...

As I have mentioned below the Father-in-law of my Tita was diagnosed having an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm. I always hear the word aneurysm but never had the chance to know what kind of diseases was all about. Last Saturday I searched through the net and I was able to explain to them what AAA is all about.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm, also written as AAA and often pronounced 'triple-A', is a localized dilatation of the abdominal aorta, that exceeds the normal diameter by more than 50%. The normal diameter of the infrarenal aorta is 2 cm. An abdominal aortic aneurysm occurs most commonly in older individuals (between 65 and 75), and more in men and smokers. The majority of abdominal aortic aneurysms do not cause symptoms. Symptomatic and large aneurysms (>5.5 cm in diameter) are considered for repair.

Just imagine his father’s aorta widens for almost 7 cm well in fact the normal diameter is only 2 cm. He was then considered as a walking time-bomb since it will rupture anytime. Its abdominal aortic aneurysm weakens the walls of the blood vessel, leaving it vulnerable to bursting open, or rupturing, and spilling large amounts of blood into the abdominal cavity, leading to only minutes of life remaining. We hope and pray that God will do miracles in their family because I believe nothing is too difficult for Him- He is the God who heals!

AAA Symptoms

Last Thursday evening the father-in-law of my Tita (auntie) was rushed to the Emergency Room because he can not bear the pain in his stomach. Luckily he was able to arrive at the hospital since he was being traveled for almost 5 hours from their province going here in our city. After the thorough check-up of what was really the cause, he was then diagnosed having an Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). The doctor told his family that he is already a walking time bomb, anytime of the day he will rupture. It is so sad to know about his situation since his family does not know what his disease was all about. Can Psoriasis Kill?

I always hear the word Psoriasis as a kind of disease, but I do not have any idea about it. In order for me not to be ignorant, I did some research on the net and just found out that it is a reddish, scaly rash often located over the surfaces of the elbows, knees, scalp, and around or in the ears, navel, genitals or buttocks. It is also an autoimmune disease that is mediated by T lymphocytes and considered as a very common disease.
