Salo2x sa Boy Zugba

Boy Zugba – Kusina Bisaya opened its first branch in Corrales Avenue last February 8, 2015 proposing a modern and casual counterpoint to traditional Kagay-anon home-cooked meals. Boy Zugba’s extensive menu is a reconciliation of past and present home cooking and Filipino street food, continuously catering every Filipino’s taste buds with premium food selection and caliber customer service. Food is intended for sharing and is characterized by a familiarity of flavors and the memories they bring back.

Its extensive menu is a sure crowd pleaser, full of things people really love to eat, with choices ranging from an array of grilled food items, as well as meals that we normally see in karenderias or eat at home, which are wittingly dubbed with Bisaya names such as Pisbol sa Corrales, Pansit sa Pulis, and Sinuglaw de Cagayan– true to its form as a proudly Kusina Bisaya food joint.

This year, after almost over a year of opening its latest branch at Centrio Ayala Mall, Boy Zugba has been proudly recognized and awarded by Ayala with the “Most Promising Retailer” Award last June 15, 2017. To celebrate its recognition and the upcoming city fiesta, Boy Zugba will be launching Two (2)  New set of boodle for 2 for only Php 499.

Tonkatsu by Terazawa in Cagayan de Oro

I would like to welcome Tonkatzu by Terazawa here in the City of Golden friendship, another newly opened restaurant of the Bistro-Group added to TGIF and Italiani's! Actually, I am not a Japanese food lover but I tell you after trying their Katsu meals I'm now beginning to add the Japanese menu on my lists.
Here is a serving of tasty, tender pork cutlets fried to perfection, served with pickled vegetables, shredded cabbage, miso soup and unlimited rice is an irresistible meal anytime of the day. Yes you read it right, unlimited rice and this delightful fare one can enjoy only at Tonkatsu by Terazawa, the first Philippine franchise of the Japan-based chain brought to the country by the Bistro Group.

Here's how to enjoy your Tonkatsu experience:

1. For the appetizing starters you can have the Fried Chicken Wings, the Chasoba Salad and the Pork Karaage. Here are the ones we've tasted below, but to add taste for the Pork Karaage you can squeeze the lemon on top of it.

2. Next thing is to choose the main dish/course, they have IBERICO KATSU...
- this Katsu meal is made of the finest black Iberico Pork with a delicate, nutty, meaty, melt-in-in-your-mouth marbling. It is also known as the Pata Negra, the Iberian pigs of south and Southwest areas of Spain.

Another main course to choose from is the KUROBUTA KATSU...
- it is a  dubbed angus of pork, a meat from the original strains of Bekrshire hogs from Japan. It is packed with juiciness and is rich in flavor from the meat's excellent marbling. It is considered as the Katsu's crowning glory!

Still, you can choose aside from the two above mentioned Katsu's are the Rosu Katsu sets (deep-fried pork loin sets) and the Hire Katsu (deep-fried pork fillet sets). Another must try is the Jumbo Ebifurai, an imperial prawns that are simply deep-fried to achieve the natural fresh taste of the prawns.

Here's a good catch, all of the Katsu sets are served with refillable servings of Japanes rice, shredded cabbage and a bowl of hot Tonjiru, a special miso soup flavored with pork.

Here's how to enjoy your dish:
  • Grind the sesame seeds straight onto the Tonkatsu to bring the aroma and flavor of the pork.
  • Dip the Tonkatsu in the house blended Tonkatsu sauce with a pinch of Japanese salt for added taste.
  • Include a good amount of the shredded cabbage in between bites to cleanse your palate.
But before you'll end your Tonkatsu experience, don't forget this sweet ending bestselling dessert called the Frozen Grean Tea. A heavenly slice of frozen, fluffy meringue roll with a hint of green tea! Indeed, it really taste like heaven.

So, I guess it's high time for you to try Tonkatsu by Chef Akinori Terazawa- a Japanese restaurateur. The restaurant is located at the ground floor of Centrio Mall, besides Italianis.

For more details, please feel free to check their FB page: https://www.facebook.com/TonkatsuByTerazawa. You can follow them also in Twitter and Instagram @tonkatsuph!

Indeed, I am a Proud Kagay-anon!

CDO Gears Up for Its First CDO Startup Weekend

This July, Cagayan de Oro plays host to its first ever Startup Weekend. Basically, the SW is like a crash course in creating a business. For 54 hours, managers, developers, designers, leaders, product managers, students, and anyone with entrepreneurial goals will gather in one venue to pitch ideas, form teams, and develop and launch startups. The 3-day event is open to both aspiring and experienced entrepreneurs.

What Should Participants Expect in a Startup Weekend?

The Startup Weekend is a concept-to-launch event that follows one model. One the first day, participants will be given time to pitch their ideas (usually 60 seconds or less) without visual aids or any other supporting material. Each participant is then given the opportunity to vote for the pitch he likes best and to choose a team. On Saturday, everyone will be busy working with their teammates develop their chosen pitch. There will be discussions on which business models and designs to use, while others will be thinking about marketing and customer development. On the third and last day, Sunday, all groups will have the chance to present and demonstrate their prototypes in front of a panel of judges composed of industry leaders and local entrepreneurs. The judges will offer feedback and choose a winning startup team.

Throughout the 54-hour event, mentors and leaders will move around so participants can interact with them. They can share ideas and even fish for suggestions. The Startup Weekend, after all, is an event for like-minded individuals whose goal is to become a part of global communities by launching their own startups.

Why You Should Join Startup Weekend

There are two main goals that Startup Weekend organizers all over the world intend to highlight. First, to create local startups; and second, to support local businesses. SW is an activity that encourages growth and innovation, especially in the local scene. Anyone who is success-driven will want to be a part of this campaign.

Aside from these, there are other reasons why you should join the Startup Weekend:

·         It is the ideal way to meet and interact with people who share your passion, ideals, and goals.
·         It is the best way to meet and connect with inspiring business leaders, successful entrepreneurs, developers, marketers, and success-oriented students.
·         It is an excellent opportunity for learning from some of the best and most successful people.
·         It is a good venue for welcoming opportunities that showcase your business and creative abilities.
·         It is your chance to become a part of the city and the region’s growing startup community.

Who are Qualified to Join the SW CdeO?

Every Startup Weekend gathers people with varying backgrounds. If you’re a kindergarten teacher wishing to experience a big change in your life; if you are a college student oozing with interesting ideas; or if you are an established businessman who wants to try out something different, the Startup Weekend is for you. Every SW is designed for anybody; for everybody – even for high school students. It is not just for managers, business leaders, or programmers. It is for anybody who is eager and passionate to share, create, learn, and develop ideas.

CDO’s First Startup Weekend

The success and influence of Startup Weekend is evident in the many cities and countries that have participated in the event. There are hundreds of grants around the world at present, and the number of Startup Weekend alumni total to around 100,000.

Kagay-anons will get the chance to become a part of this distinguished group through the Startup Weekend happening on July 11, 12, and 13, 2014 at Capitol University. The intense 54-hour weekend event will have local entrepreneurs and industry leaders serve as mentors for the teams. Startup enthusiasts, marketing people, designers, programmers, developers, students, and anyone interested in developing and launching a startup are invited to register through http://cdo.startupweekend.org/.

Cagayan de Oro’s first Startup Weekend is co-presented by the Cagayan de Oro ICT Business Council, DevCon (Developers Connect), Ideaspace, DOST-ICTO, and Microsoft. Updates about the event can be found through the SW CdeO Facebook Page.

About Startup Weekend

Startup Weekend started in 2007 in Boulder, Colorado when Andrew Hyde decided to gather some people for a weekend of brainstorming for a business idea.  The group spent the weekend working on the idea and bringing it into fruition by Sunday. By 2-009, the Startup Weekend was registered as a non-profit organization. Since then, it has been operating in Seattle under the direction of Marc Nager, who gained full ownership of the organization along with Clint Nelsen. Together, the two developed the Event Model that is currently used in all SWs.

Dire Husi Initiative

Couple of weeks ago, we were priviledged enough that we were invited by one of the co-founder of Dire Husi Initiatives~Mr. Rhyan Casiño for a  sumptuous "boodle fight" lunch with my cousins. Dire Husi Artsville's new location is in Mambatangan, Upper Puerto Cagayan de Oro City. If you really love arts, you will surely appreciates the place in itself.

By the way, if you still don't know what Dire Husi means, here's an info that I got:

“Dire” is a Visayan word for “here” and “Husi“ is a Manobo word for “friend.” We are a youth organization, a creative social enterprise, an artisan collective, a band of world musicians, a training hub, and a fair trade advocate. If that already sounds a bagful, wait and see, because we believe that with faith and dreams, we could be so much more.

Wow! Kudos to all the people who are involve in this organization, they're not just plainly men and women for others but above all they are the mighty men and women of God! God bless all your advocacies!! Once again, thanks for the invites Sir Rhyan! :)

DALTAN's Kambingan in CdeO!

As the world celebrated 4squareDay 2013 last April 16, the CDObloggers too for the first  time participated that same event. We the cluster 5 of CDO Bloggers made a decision to have our meet-up at Daltan's Kambingan situated at corner Capistrano- Cruz Taal Streets in this city.

Upon knowing that the said venue was at Daltan's, what came to mind was okay I will not eat but I have to be there in support for the group. Why? because honestly, I don't feel like eating goat meat. I remember back then when my father and cousins would eat such, I would immediately asked them what does it taste like? Well, they've got the same answer..."it's yummy!"

Here comes the dishes in front of me, I thought they would served us another type of dish aside from the goat  meat but unfortunately they did not. Funny me! So I left with no choice but instead get a small amount of their Kalderetang Kambing as some kinda' taste test on my part. Believe me, I am so thankful for my taste buds at that time because I really love the dish and guess what? I requested for a additional cup of rice. :) So I can now say that Daltan's Kambingan is the yummiest Kambingan in the city (downtown). They are simply the best!

So here's my plate below on the upper left...

By the way, just an info... they named their business as Daltan's not because of the owner's name combination but instead Daltan's means "Dala Tanan" (all -in-one) since they cater not only goat dishes but other dishes that you want to and aside from that they have their massage parlor at the second level of their restaurant. Cool huh!

Well, if you want to try the best kambingan in town...
come and visit DALTAN's at Capistrano-Cruz Taal Sts, CDO (near Shanghai Bakery)

Be Safe Everyone!

As  of the moment, people here in our city had started to panic because of the warning signal that Cagayan de Oro will be experiencing storm signal #2. It's kinda' weird because we were given warnings to evacuate as early as now well in fact the sun still shines so bright. Yet, we know God has given us the wisdom to be  always on guard/ready for any circumstances that will happen. Yes! Let us not wait that Sendong moments to happened again here in our City. Let us all continue to pray for the Typhoon Bopha/Pablo to stay away from us and spare us from any calamities to happen.

Anyway, let's just all prepare and be vigilant for tonight for this typhoon will gonna hit somewhere here in Mindanao and that rainfalls may be expected in our city. Be safe everyone and God Bless!

Typhoon Sendong (Washi)

Typhoon Sendong (Washi): an unforgettable tragedy...

December 17, 2011 at exactly 12 midnight a catastrophic happened in the city of Cagayan de Oro ~in just a split of seconds... flash flood came and it now turned out to be devastated areas. :(

It’s so sad seeing those thousands of families grieving for their loss of loved ones and those evacuees who are now homeless. My heart cries just like them who are directly affected of the said storm because I know lots of people who are victims of it- my friends, office mates, church mates and even my own direct families as well. Upon seeing the aftermath of the said typhoon, houses were totally wrecked, and most of those houses built along the river banks were being washed out and their areas turned to be a “desert” one. :(

Seeing those pictures uploaded by my friends makes me want to cry for God’s goodness of saving us from that kind of adversity. I can see dining room being crashed down, their kitchen being washed out and even their bathrooms like their clawfoot bathtub were full of mud. Nothing really escaped from that tragic event, indeed it was really an unforgettable moments among us Kagay-anons.

To all of us: just keep our hopes and faith going. God Bless us all!

Water & Current Crisis

After the unforgettable heartbreaking news that happened and experienced here in our city that was brought by the Typhoon Sendong (Washi), another calamity arises: the Water and Current crisis!

It would be so okay if current (electricity) will be off rather than having no water at all. Our water provider’s reservoir was being hit by the typhoon and it was totally damage and that’s the major cause of having a water crisis here in the whole city of Cagayan de Oro. They say that it will be fixed within a month, but hey we can’t live without the water.

You can see lines of pails, gallons and drums along the highway just to wait for the fire truck to arrive. Good for those households who have their own water pumps/coolant pumps because their time will not be wasted just to wait for the free water to come. Whew! Too bad commercial water prices are now starting to increase. Hope to have our water supply by next week.

CDO's Golden Float Parade 2011

20

It’s been five years ago when I started to witness the Golden Float Parade that our city holds. Last Saturday, it’s another memorable day that I witnessed together with my family- hubby, daughter, sis and cousins. We went to the city proper so early so as to see those different entries and be able to judge on my own who’s my bet to win the said contest. Anyway, the road was full of different colors, different faces and different work-arts being displayed. Truly, we are proud to be one of the Kagay-anons!

Here’s one of my bets below:

CDO: A Booming City

Cagayan de Oro City is considered as one of the most progressive cities in the Philippines and one of its most picturesque destination that serves as the regional center being the most populous highly-urbanized city in Northern Mindanao (Region X).

But hey, I've heard about this rumour that we are still in need of more hotels in our city so as to cater the 10,000 rooms for delegates coming in for conventions. Anyway, I thinks it's now on it's process of realizing it all since I'm starting to see lots of metal buildings arising within the city vicinity.

Cool and pretty sure it would be a greater booming city so soon! :)
