What Makes a Good Concealed Ankle Holster?

Getting into self-defense and personal protection should be a comfortable experience, but all too often new people are a bit shy about asking key questions before making purchases, and that can cost them time and money as they work through the equipment they don't like to find the gear they do.

Understanding what makes each piece of gear effective and how it fits into your tactical carry makes a huge difference, so if you don't like asking questions in person, you need to do research. Before you buy a concealed ankle holster, you need to know if your choice will suit the gun you own and the way you move.

Comfort Comes First

The very first rule when buying a concealed carry holster of any kind is that it needs to feel comfortable. More than that, it needs to feel natural. An irritant will be a temptation to pick at it and call attention to the area, and an uncomfortable weight will affect the way you walk, revealing the ankle holster. Finding the most natural, form-fitting holster that holds your gun snugly is the key to effectively carrying at the ankle.

Consider Material Behavior

How a holster releases has a huge impact on the way a user interacts with it, and there's not one solution that works for everybody. There are designs that generally feel better to most people, though, and it's worthwhile learning what the gold standards are for different materials, as well as what different materials will do for your carry style.

Don't Forget Your Fashion

Carrying at the ankle requires you think through the way your holster will interact with your clothes, as well as how much extra bulk your pistol adds at the ankle. Smaller weapons with holsters that keep them tight to the body are easier to hide, but finding the right combination of holster, pistol, and outfit for your carry days means being able to be sure no one but you knows where the weapon is. That way, you're getting everything you expect out of your concealed carry permit.

Concealed Carry Tips For The Ladies

Shirts
Those women who enjoy owning and carrying a firearm used to be subject to a small choice in regards to the way that they could discreetly carry their weapon. This is no longer true as there are now companies who make specialized firearms clothing developed especially for women. Here are just some of the options they now have.

1. Hip-hugging devices have been manufactured which work well with the curves of a woman's body. When buying a quality hip-hugging device, you will no longer have to worry about unsightly bulges or having to wear long shirts to conceal the weapon. The hip-hugger does it all for you.

2. Another great example of concealed carry options for women is a garter holster. When this type of accessory is worn, you can wear a dress while out on the town or while at work and not have to worry about losing the ability to carry your firearm. Before these were invented and mass-marketed, women would have to resort to carrying their handgun in a purse, which is impractical and potentially dangerous. Now ladies can be both stylish and protected by wearing their gun on their upper thigh, out of sight but still accessible.

3. Corset holsters work great for women who prefer to wear tighter clothing. By donning the corset, not only is the gun kept out of sight in a very discreet fashion but it is also slimming to the waistline. Who says lady gun owners can't be safe and sexy at the same time? As you can see, there are many different concealed carry options for women. While not all of them may be for you, there is almost certainly an option which can be taken advantage of and utilized to the best of your ability.
